The VFX Appreciation Society is comprised of a discreet circle of industry veterans.

Founded in 1986, their identities remain concealed. From its earliest days, the Society has operated in silence, acknowledging the work of visual effects artists across the world.

With no public presence and no formal affiliation, it observes, studies, and values the craft in all its forms: from large-scale productions to the work that often goes unnoticed.

Its purpose is singular:

to recognise what others fail to see.

In nearly four decades, the Society has issued only seventy-three recognitions.

As the number of artists has grown, so too has the disparity, and with it, the lack of acknowledgement.

For this reason, the Society has chosen to become less passive.

Artists are now being contacted

to be acknowledged, and to be reminded

that their work is valued.

Some may, in time,

be invited to stand among its ranks.

No announcements are made.

Those who are recognised are aware of it.

You may not have heard of us,

but we have heard of you.

The Society is rarely acknowledged.

Its judgement requires no validation.
